Has anyone else done this with the Wizard Eye?

In the lair of the Beholders I never took a scratch.

I summoned monsters.... cast the eye... and sent them all in to beat up the Beholders.... if one died I just summoned more and replaced the eye when it ran out... my party never fired a shot...

You're talking about the place in the Underdark I take it?
Any useful items I should make sure I get while I'm there?

I've done stuff like that before. I used it to controll a group of powerfull summoned creatures to help fight a dragon and other difficult monsters and battles. I use them as shock troops and then I go in with my main group and finish them off.

This works well with beholders because they have a scripting problem - they almost never use their eye beams on summoned creatures.
I use the Horn of Valhalla to summon a warrior who just walks over and beats them to death while my party watches from a safe distance. Without their eye beams they're just a big marshmallow.
A PC wearing a cloak of mirroring works really well too.

[IMG] Ohhhh.... so was I cheating, then? I didn't know it was a programming flaw.... but now that you bring it up - the summoned monsters didn't take NEAR the beating that my regular characters did....

hmmmmm, I just thought it was a cool use of the eye...

I try not to play with obvious programming flaws as my strategy for beating the bad guys... like beating the admantium golem with a sling because he can't get through the door... I think good bad guys are what makes the game fun... and I don't WANT them to be easy...

If you send the eye into anywhere with a creature that can see the invisible it will usually dispense its entire arsenal of spells on it.
I once locked a couple of mordeskins swords in with a bunch of mind flayers and umber hulks, but I couldn't see what they were doing, I suppose this is where the Wizard eye thing comes in.

We found the Wizard Eye very useful in fighting the male vampire who retreats to the room with all the spikes. Like you said, it safely opens up the back part of the room for spells and summonings.
