I thought only Bards and Bard Kits could use this.

But my main character, a Undead Hunter, can use it just fine!

Is this a bug, or was it intended the main character could use it regardless of class?
None of my other NPCs can use it. I have no Bards.

This sounds rude, but I never use it even with a bard. Useless piece of junk if you ask me. Sell it and get some money.

The spell Choas isn't very great in BG2 because of the better saving throws of the enemies.

But a free one with an item wouldn't hurt.

Harp of Discord ? Yes it is a bug. All Paladins were able to use it, for no good reason. This bug was fixed either in the final BG2:ToB patch or Kevin Dorner's BaldurDash Fixpack 1.12 (or whatever the latest version is).

If you don't have a bard, I'd agree with Depaara on one point sell it. In my honest opinion, if one uses the harp with their paladin, with not installing the patch, well it's just not right, but then I don't like doing any cheating in BG2. Although I'll admit this current run through BG2, I fake talked Firkraag, mainly for two reasons: 1) I didn't have the party to take him out, and 2) I'd never used the fake talk strategy before, and never been able to get it to work, so I wanted to experiment :shame:

As for Depaara's other point ? If you're suggesting bards are totally useless, well that's unfortunate, I'll admit I haven't taken a bard yet unless it's been my main char, but every class and npc in BG2, has their uses, it's really a matter of your party make-up. One of the good things I could think of with a Bard, would be in character creation, if you're not dragging a bard over from BG1, give the Bard 18 int and 18 wis. eventually except for high + weapons and equipment, you probably wouldn't need your bard or any of your mages to memorise the identify spell, which I would find quite handy personally.

Actually, Jechor, I love bards -- it's the harp I think is useless. I always have Haer'Dalis in my group if at all possible, as his magic abilities are as good as any mage's for the first part of SoA, and his High Level abilities, plus his Lore, makes him invaluable (I wish he were a Skald, mind you, so his Lore would be even better, but oh well).
