[IMG] Hey everyone. A little while ago the hard drive in my computer died so naturally I got it replaced. As far as I no, the new hard drive is exactly the same as my old one, but a number of my games are running a bit slow, jumpy. This never happened with my old hard drive. Any ideas?
(the games that are being jumpy are BG2 and NWN:platinum)

Do you have the same amount of memory on the new harddrive as you did on the old one?

It may not be the drive. I'm guessing that since the old drive failed you have reinstalled the system software. It may be somewhere in that process that is the root of the problem. Check to see if there is anything running in the background that may slow the system down while under a high load.

If the new drive is IDE, you may also check to make sure that it is not on the same cable as your CD ROM which could also reduce its performance. Your CD ROM drives and hard disks should be on separate controllers.

Make sure you have the latest drivers on your computer as well as the latest dirext x. Also check that you've configured your page file correctly.

"Your CD ROM drives and hard disks should be on separate controllers."

Why is that? that's the way mine are setup and it works fine.

IDE can only service one request from one device at a time. So using a slow CD ROM drive and a HDD on the same controller will slow down access.
