    It's not a unique creature, just an angry dryad. The only annoying part is that it teleports every time it casts a spell.

    Yes, the Hamadryad in Cloakwood is a difficult opponent for melee because she keeps teleporting away before you can hit her, but ranged combat works fine.

    The Baldur's Gate series shows the "Liner fighters, quadratic wizards" in that warriors (fighters and fighter kits like Paladins and Rangers. Yes in 2E paladins and rangers are technically kits according to the PHB. Bards are rogue kits, and druids are priest/cleric kits) with bows are generally as powerful or more powerful than wizards in BG1, especially at levels 1-4, but wizards surpass warriors in BG2 as your level gets over 10.

    The point is that ranged combat is very powerful and you should make sure everyone has some kind of ranged weapon option, even a mage can be useful with darts or throwing daggers, although slings are the cheapest but weakest.
    Bows are the best.
