i started playing D&D about 2 years ago. we've played with the same characters all this time, and only recently decided that we would carry two characters each now ( not to play at the same time, but to have more variety in games). most of our present characters are at level 8, with a few (who have made every game) at level 9, so we're bringing in the new characters at level 7. i was given permission from our DM to create a half-celestial character (he's going with the ECL+3 rather than the +5 that was mentioned in Dragon(?) magazine, so my new character would be a level 4 half-celestial paladin).

I have very little information to go on reguarding half-celestials (the base creature is elf, btw) or even celestials other than what is listed in the MM. can anyone offer some info that would help me to flesh out this new half-celestial character? none of the members of my group has ever played one or been in a group where one was played. i would really like sometihng to sink my teeth into on this topic.. so i can better put together the character's backstory and family history.. specifically what kind of celestial he is from and the conditions that lead to the matting with his elven mother. any help would be greatly appriciated... thanks!

Sounds interesting. But if that character has wings (as most half-celestials do, IIRC), then the ECL might be raised; I'm not sure if it would bump it up to +4, but still...

Anyways on fleshing out Mr. Half-Celestial.

A half-celestial can be interpreted, I believe, as a person with a relatively strong celestial ancestry. This means that if you're only a quarter-celestial or whatnot, you're still considered a half-celestial for all intents 'n' purposes. This might mean that the character doesn't know about his heavenly ancestry, but just knows that he's "different".

For more information on Celestials, you probably nave to consult a 2E (shudder, gasp) book on Planescape. Of course, searches on the internet would also turn up plenty of stuff. I suggest Mimir.net or Planewalker.com.

Who's the DM? If you are, you can always just make up the stuff. If not, the players could just talk it over with him to provide a good backstory.

i'm going to forgo the flight ability.. letting him be part of that 25% that are flightless.

well.. this hasn't been as good as i thought it would be. i naturally assumed that i would be able to find a lot through searches, but so far i haven't been successful :(
