[IMG] Firstly let me say I realise there is a thread about Graphics cards already, and I will happily post there if need be...

Right, now onto my question, at the moment I have a NVIDIA GeForce FX5200 (128MB) card...I'm looking to upgrade, to allow me to play the latest games on the higher Graphics settings.
I had in mind the NVIDIA GeForce 6 6600 LE (256MB), but to tell you the truth I have no idea how this will perform in comparison to what I have already, so I was wondering if anyone had any idea?

    Take a look here: http://www.tomshardware.com/site/vgacharts/index.html

The FX 5200 is so old you have to go back to the 2004 charts.

Doing a really quick look at the 3D Marks only, you will see a huge performace increase; something like 6 times the performance.

In the 2004 charts for the 3D Marks, the FX 5200 was bottom of the barrel, while the FX 5700 was about a third of the way up at about twice the perfomance of the FX 5200.

In the 2005 charts for the 3D Marks (which now was a new benchmark), the FX 5700 was bottom of the barrel, while the 6600 was more than a third from the bottom at about triple the performance of the FX 5700.

Blackthorne posted that link recently in another thread - its a good source of information.
Your probably using AGP - in which case the latest card lineup are all PCIe. You going to have to choose a card from the previous generation ie. the Nvidia 6 series or the ATI X###
    series.
If you can afford it the best AGP card you can get is ATI X850 PE, this is however very expensive and doesnt support shader model 3 and HDR (if you dont know what these are your probably best not worrying about it)
A good high-mid end card is the nvidia 6800gs which isn't far off the x850 but much cheaper.

The next cards down are the 6600gt and radeon X800 gto take your pick which, the 6600gt is considerably cheaper but does'nt perform quite as high.
I would'nt really recommend a 6600le - I'd go for the 6600gt if I could possibly afford the extra few quid.
I've posted before about memory - 256 mb on a 6600 is overkill. Unless your going up to a 6800 or x800 level 128mb is enough, its kind of like putting extra wheels on a car - that don't touch the ground.

If you want something cheaper than the X800 but in the lines of the 6600's performance, ATI's X700Pro is very good. It's relatively cheap (I got mine for £60m you should be able to find it for around $100 in the US), and it performs VERY well for its price.

LE stands for "Light Edition", IIRC, and it is one of those inexpensive and not-so-good series. If you want something inexpensive, consider GF6800GT. If you want performance for ~150€ more, go for GF7800 GT.

Myself, I will be ditching my plain GF6600 pretty soon, since it works like a bottle-neck in my new rig.
