Good vs. evil & guild vs. guild & pledge not to cheat

    [​IMG] I'v been searching the web for NWN web pages. What I have found as been very dissterbing. Many sites are eather devoted to distroying good or evil. Guilds are determed to be the top guild in all. Some want to distory others. Distory! Thats every ones motto! Distory!

    The games not even out yet.

    If all this is started and the game hasn't come out yet then what is going to stop people from all over killing off the little people who just started out. Will they die to benafite others? Be used as a stepping stone to be more powerful?

    I will not join a guild for these reasions.

    Some times it seems that NWN is going to give us all to much power. DM's will be gods. Players superhummans.

    Though I do amite that not all people will do this. I am pleging from here on out to in no way level up unfairly or DM as a god.

    Plege to not cheat. Post here.

    Me, well ok if I have to. I pledge not to cheat. Happy? Now that thats over. Why do you want to be in a guild? Friendship? Teamwork? Me being evil sometimes I am not likely to stick to that pledge, or make that pledge in the first place...

    So I'll have to be good I guess.

    [​IMG] I think the word you're looking for is destroy.

    Anyway, there's cheating in every such game, and there's not really much that can be done about it. You'll always be safe in single player, and if you play with your friends - that doesn't change.

    And, of course, there will always be servers where powergaming munchkins will be running around PKing, and others where (hopefully), there'll be a bit less of that. ALFA is our best chance of that.

    As for DM's being gods - I don't know who started this stupid analogy. They'll be gods no more than they are in p&p. Logically they'll have full power since they'll be making and running the world you'll be playing in. I have the feeling that some people don't understand that DM's can't be players... They are the keepers of the world players play in, not all-powerful players.

    Players will only be superhumans if they're allowed to easily enough.

    And guilds - well, there will be plenty of good guilds around too. Ours is one.

    Yes, but not at the same time. Though you could act as if you were a player by taking control of NPCs...

    Cheating? What was it that word meant, again? :p

    Ok so I can be a DM and player just not at the same time. DM a little then when I get tired of that be a player for awile. I'm I right or has it just flown over my head again?

    [​IMG] Playing in a world where you DM is as pointless as playing chess against yourself. How you ever gonna surprise yourself? You KNOW where every monster and trap is!

    How the worlds will evolve remains to be seen. Some will be a re-enactment of PnP, 6 or so friends meet every week and run private adventures. Some will be watered down versions of EQ and UO with spawnings, camping & powergamers.
    In Character PvP pitting a guild of evil PCs against a guild of good PCs (each with HI not AI) could be interesting if done right, but there is a danger of it degenerating into a tit for tat bloodbath.
    I guess the 'Distroy' comment refers to our old 'friend' Bain and his Black Faction. Don't worry, he does that to wind people up. Sometimes it works. ;)

    DRSW, you cannot run a module as a DM and play at the same time using the same machine. But there is nothing stopping you from closing down your DM module and start the game again, this time as a player. There are no limits for such switches whatsoever.

    It's a part of the world that you're DMing. If you are going to be a DM you need to build those with the tools that comes with NWN. You put your houses, monsters, treasures, NPCs etc in your module and then people can play in that "world". I'm sure that after some time there will be modules to get from the net that other has created as well.
