[IMG] Punish me if you want Taluntain, but I gotta say, "Not this topic AGAIN!!!" I've only been coming here a matter of weeks, and I've seen this same (or VERY similar) question more than once already.

No offense to you Capt. I can see you're relatively new, but if you check out previous posts you'll see what I mean.

Well there are 25 different NPCs If I remember correctly, so there is a multitude of good NPCs to choose from. It depends what your main character is really. You can find a list of all the NPCs and their stats/alignments here : http://www.sorcerers.net/Games/BG/npcs.php
I just finished the game with me party as:
    Myself (Half-Elf Ranger)
    Imoen
    Khalid
    Jaheira
    Minsc
    Dynaheir

This was not the most exciting of parties, but it gave me everything I needed, and I managed to get through the game without many major problems (The hardest bits were the werewolf island in TotSC and the end boss probably) .

Ace of Spades... This is a popular topic for every IE game really. Can't blame people for bringing it up again. Not everyone wants to sift through dozens of previous posts, so if a new one comes up every once in a while I think it's alright. Don't post in it if you don't want to, but let others do.

Half the fun of the npcs is TRYING them and deciding for yourself which are best. Mix and match them, discover the different dialogues shared by different npcs. Everybody has their own style of play, and each person should decide which npcs fit HIM/HER FOR themselves. By asking this question before trying the npcs for yourself, you may have a biased opinion of an npc long before you ever meet him/her. Discover for yourself which npcs can be trusted, which are cowards, which will abandon you in your hour of need. And again, Captain, I'm soory if I offended you in any way.

    Captain Spud,
At the moment I am playing with this party:
    - Me (Human Fighter)
    - Minsc
    - Coran
    - Yeslick
    - Dynaheir
    - Imoen (dual-classed to Conjurer)

Before getting to Cloakwood I had Kivan and Branwen in my party, which were then replaced by Coran and Yeslick, respectively.

My Character and Minsc are fully sufficient for most melee combats and also could be used as archers if required.
As well as being the party's main archers, Coran and Imoen take care of thieving. Coran is specialised in stealth, lockpicks and pickpocketing (although rarely used ;) ) whilst Imoen detects & disarms all traps the party encounters. Wearing the Boots of Stealth her Stealth skill is quite satisfying and she is also able to cast Invisibility.
Yeslick is the party's cleric. Being a multiclass character he progresses slower and reaches one level less compared to Branwen. His alignment and character, however, fit better into the party. Besides, one level does not make that much of a difference IMHO. Furthermore, I also wanted to have a dwarf on the team.
All magical aspects are covered by Dynaheir (Invoker) and Imoen (Conjurer). These two specialised classes complement each other also quite well.
    I hope this helps.

    Executor Dunfinn the Paladin
    Kagain
    Minsc
    Branwen (change with Yeslick?)
    Imoen
    Dynaheir

But come on guys, stop these ideal party threads!

Started a new party a week ago, planning to play through the whole series with the same character.

Chandra, human thief (will be dual-classed to mage in BG2)
    Kivan
    Minsc
    Dynaheir
    Yeslick
And that paladin chap (now what was his name again?)

The party might be a challenge to a beginner though, due to the lack of heals and because Dynaheir can't learn all those vital spells.

Started another party aswell, going to go through the series with it too.

    Fallen paladin (i.e. fighter)
    Kagain
    Viconia
    Montaron
    Xzar
    Edwin

    Too bad I can't get Shar-Teel in :(

    minsc
    kivan

Agreably you have to kill jaheira and dinahair(?spelling?)but it's a small price to pay for such a groovy party.

Volar: The name of the paladin is most likely Ajantis.
