I am planning on having either an elven thief or an elven ranger as a PC. Do you have any party suggestion for this.
Some NPC will I have with me no matter what: Imoen, Minsc, Jaheira.
have in mind that I don´t like dualing. So I like the idea of dual Imoen to Conjurer right away. In that way I have the good mage area covered.

Yes but I dualed her right away. That way her thief skills come back very fast. I don´t like dualing when I have to wait long for the other class to be activated again.

No I am a little confised. I am at the Neashkel mines, but now it seems that I have to start all over again. The party I first had in mind was this:
    Me (Elven Ranger)
    Minsc
    Jaheira
Imoen (Dual her when I get Coran)
    Coran (As my thief)
    Yeslick

But now I hear that Coran can´t function as my thief. He isn´t good enough in traps for exsample. Someone has said that Safana is a good alternative, but than I will be forced to get ridd of either Coran or Yeslick. Minsc, Jaheira and Imoen is with me forever, no matter what.
And someone has said that I could use Imoen as my thief and use Dynaheir as my mage. But I don´t like Dynaheir, she has a too restrictive class. So how do I solve this problem?

You have two choices if you are set on keeping Minsc, Imoen and Jaheira.

You can either get rid of Coran or Yeslick and take on Safana. You mentioned this but you said you wanted another solution. You can't have 7 people in your party, so there's nothing else you can do. I'd drop Yelsick personally. You're playing a ranger, and you have Minsc, so you have enough tanks up front. Jaheira has a decent amount of spells to heal the party. So Yeslick isn't all that necessary. He doesn't do anything that other characters can't do. You should place all of Safanas theiving points in disarming traps and picking locks. Use Coran as your stealth person, since his stealth is already so high.

I have used Coran as my main thief all the way through TOTSC, while Imoen was dualling from T7-M8.

I picked Coran up at thief level 5 (or 6 - can't remember). I then put all the next skill points into traps, which gave him about 60% in traps, and I then just used some potions of perception when required. These stack as I recall.

Don't forget that clerics can be used to find traps if needed.

Coran is just so cool, that it would be a shame to change your plans now.

If you rush through Chapter3 and get to Cloakwood ASAP and gain the minimum XP you can you might be able to get Coran at a lower thief level and then assign some points better for yourself.

You could always play as an Elven F/T yourself. This way you still have a fighter and even better thief skills as you can assign the points yourself.

If you're goning to dual Imoen quickly, why not just wait to dual her when she has a good find traps percentage, around %80 or so. She'll reach this rather quickly, as thieves level fast. (I always play with her in my party, but am usually a thief myself :) )
