Getting your rep down. Have you noticed how awkward it is to do this.

If your rep is climbing up to heroic levels, and you have an evil NPC on board, then you need to do something to bring that rep down or the evil NPC will leave.

A failed theft is meant to bring a small drop, but every time I try that, I lose no rep. Puching (but not killing) people has no effect. Getting Viconia into the party works (-2 on rep) only as long as she is in the party....the rep is +2 again when she leaves.

Killing an innocent seems the best thing, but that can bring a huge rep drop. Even worse, there are almost no meaningless houses around where you can go in and terminate someone with extreme prejudice without there being a comeback later.

Killing the Roenalls in front of everyone at the Graveyard cost me no loss of rep at all(heh!)...I tried to off someone sleeping in the erotic entertainments section of the Copper Coronet, which lowered my rep, but even though I closed the door to do the deed, a whole pile of people ourtside promptly went hostile, wandered into the main Coronet area and then outside into the slums area.

Now if I ever set foot in the Slums, I must ensure my AI is switched off, or one of my party will instantly kill the hostile (probably just one attack will kill them too), and then there will be a catastrophic drop in rep.

Strangely, the one place I can get a small rep hit is in the Harper building. Killing them seems to lose you two rep, but there is only a short period in the game when you can enter there (see Xzar).

The more I think about it, the stranger the whole business of lowering rep is. :alien:

The most satisfying way of lowering your rep in by killing Nalia's aunt when you go to clear out the Keep. Considering how she mouths off, I have never felt awkward killing her.
And you get a good 4 rep point drop. :spin:

Of course by chapter 5, this really isn't a problem anymore. Not wanting to spoil, but you'll have access to a nice easy way to drop your rep by 2, pretty much at will.
In chapters 2 and 3, you can slow the climb of Reputation rewards by insisting on rewards, this may cause you to get no rep increase from doing the "good" options on some quests.

I always took the 'butcher and maim' innocent tack. I generally found a few floating around who were easily despatched. Peasants in houses were my fav target.
