Is there a way to permanently get rid of the mini map? I find it annoying and useless and see no purpose for it but to take up screen space. I know there is this mod which makes it smaller, but I want it gone altogether and having to keep pressing the "N" key every time I move from area to area is just getting annoying.

Check out nwvault for UI mods. Yes there are some that alter size, but some allow you to reorganize the whole interface.

Without such a mod, the game will always reinitialize the minimap on area transitions.

A less troublesome solution would be that, assuming you have v1.03, you just move it to the bottom corner of the map. In my opinion, it tends to all but dissapear, but that depends on your resolution i guess.

Is it possible to make use of the minimap at all, anyhow? I look at it, but I can't figure out anything in relation to my surroundings.

Love the mini map. Especially with the Swift Tracker feat. Some outdoor areas aren't that easy to see, but sometimes even the giant main map isn't enough to pick out the trails easily. Indoor areas are easily followed using the mini-map IMO.

About getting rid of it: Apparently it coming back when you change areas is a known bug and will be fixed.
