[IMG] Damage you make/take is impacted by:
    Weapon u use (e.g 2d4 = 2*(rnd*4))
    Your strength
    your thac0
    Your weapon proficiencies
    enemies armor class
    enemies saving throws
    enemies dexterity (right?)
    Enemies resistencies
    Enemies weapon proficiencies..
    What else?

hm... you also need to account for the possibility of a critical strike, which could definitely have an impact on damage.
Also, some creatures are resistant/immune to certain weapontypes.

AC, thac0 & dexterity have no effect on damage. Saving throws can in some cases determine the amount of magical damage taken (in case you are being attacked by spells & such). AC and dexterity determine how easy you are to hit. The weapon proficiencies of the target of an attack can sometimes have an effect on AC, but not damage taken.

You also have spells that can boost your thac0 and the damage you inflict upon enemies...

Just give Keldorn the gauntlets of Dex The girdle of hill giant strength (19) and Carsomyr and 2 prof slots in 2 hande weapon style as well as 2 in 2 handed sword and he'll do 30 to 56 damge per hit! (He gets critical hits at a roll of 19 and 20 so he often does 50 or 56 damage!) Don't think, just Hack and Slash! ;)

...or if yer a whimp, like me, you run away to a safe distance and pull out yer harp o' discord, and make such a nuisance of yerself that your enemies lay waste to someone else...

On second thought, mount them on a pike, and care little for the consequences! Rraaahhh!

If you're interested in seeing what the game is doing behind the scenes, I think there is an option to change the gameplay feedback settings. I think that you can change these so that the text window at the bottom of the screen shows the dice rolls that are happening. Sorry can't be more specific, I haven't used this option since the early days of BG1.
