I have decided to give this game another go after finishing it about 6 months ago and I was just wondering what the general opinion was on this party by anyone who has tried it or thought about it.

Elven F/T wielding a longsword and throwing axes
Human Paladin using two handed sword until Pale Justice arrives
Half Elven Bard using a composite long bow and a halberd
Dwarven R/C using sling and flails/maces
Gnome Mage using sling and staff
Halfling F/D using sling and scimitar

I have gone for every race and every class to cover all aspects (like class or race only quests) and I did have to use Dalekeeper to get these classes.

OK, it looks nice, but were you able to use DK to properly edit those invalid PCs? For example, does your R/C dwarf really have the bonus attack, and/or dwarven saving throw bonuses? Just curious, sometimes, DK may not work.

Your gnome is mage, right, not an illusionist? Well you can still make him an illusionist for bonus spells, and your bard can cast other necromantic stuff, Skull trap for example, will be much more powerful in the hands of a bard since they have higher levels. Same for ADHW. Umm, I forgot other opposition school for Illusion, is it too severe? But bonus spells really help. They do.

F/D is neat, assuming you have HoW, shape change elementals is very useful as they soak up a lot of damage. F/Ts are even more versatile with Sneak attack. Paladins are always solid addition to any party.

Be sure to speak with your bard to some NPCs for extra quest XP in some instances. Cool! If you have HoW, then War Chant of Sith will make your game a lot easier and less time spent for healing. :thumb:

I am not sure when R/Cs get druid spells, but when they do, they become an awesome caster too, to compliment their already superiour melee skills. Specialisation+Dual wield (sorta) is awesome.

Your party looks really strong indeed. Planning to play HoF mod too?

All of the stats seem normal for the repective classes and races on my character information screen so it should be all right. I do intend to play HoF mode once I have finished the game.
Quick question: when is the best time to go to the HoW section of the game?

That really does not matter. I first visited the HoW areas near the end of pure IWD, before unlocking all other final seals in the last chapter. The game came too hard for me but I had fun and finished it AND ToTLM. (hope you also have it, it is a nice little lovely addition)

Then in my last game I entered HoW immediately when my party all became level 9, for a change of pace and challenge. To my suprise, the game suprisingly came easier this time, perhaps I knew what to expect and how to deal with. (three white doves in the hands of a hasted paladin who is specialised in maces, rains havoc in Burial Isle almost too easily, though she died once when that accursed Waling Virgin unique used her Death Knell!)

I think your own experience as a player depends here, NOT your own party's xp level. :)

    @ TrueBlue,

I would consider the following party, if hitting all the bases is what you're after:

    Human Paladin
    Half-elf Ranger/Cleric
    Dwarven Fighter
    Human Fighter 2 / Druid X
    Half-Elf Bard
    Gnomish Illusionist / Thief

    Also consider:

    Human Paladin
    Half-Elf Ranger Cleric
    Fighter/Thief (any race)
    Druid (any race)
    Bard (any race)
    Wizard (any race or specialty)

Both of these combinations cover every class, and almost every race. Mix and match a little at your leisure, but you shouldn't need SK for them. These two variations are what I play with exclusively in IWD, and I've found it gives you the absolute best playing experience.

It's a good party. With respect to class combinations, this is very similar to my latest party (I had a F/C and a F/M, but everyone else was the same. The F/M was a lot more fun than a pure mage, so you might want to consider trying one).

As for HoW, I'd actually suggest going there after you've completely beat IWD and your chars get exported after the big fight. The expansion will be easier, but the final section of IWD will be tougher, so it balances out. Also, you'll get to upgrade Aihonen's blade fully, which is always nice.
