RPG Vault has posted a GenCon 2005 report from this year's edition that took place on Sep. 07. Here's a bit of what it says about Dungeons & Dragons Online:

    Dungeon and Dragons Online
Atari and Turbine Entertainment had multiple setups for Gen Con attendees to try out a limited demo of their upcoming online title. Each console allowed players to try a different class and quest through a crypt. The Warforged, which for readers unfamiliar with the Dungeon and Dragons Eberron campaign setting is a metal construct, allowed players to play through as a Barbarian melee fighter. One of the things that is obvious from the first encounter is that Turbine has gone to great length to make combat feel less like the standard MMORPG and more like the tabletop role-playing game. Players will be able to use abilities such as charge, power attacks and other abilities featured in it.

The world of Eberron is a catch-all fantasy world with hints of steampunk. Combat was engaging but did feature some jerky animations that would have the avatar changing directions away from the monster I was trying to attack. The dungeon was well designed, featuring locked doors, caskets that could be destroyed for gold and items, and monsters that would follow the player around the dungeon seeking to end your quest.
