Recently, I was trying to install Deus Ex unto my computer.
All went well, untill the very end of the installation: after all files had been installed, it set about to uncompress the system data files, and the installer locked up.
I've tried two different (legal!) copies, and the problem occurs with both. They work fine on a friends' computer, so I've concluded it's SOMETHING about my PC.
Does anyone know what this might be / how I can solve this? I'm running under WinXP Pro currently, any help would be much appreciated...

PS - under 'task manager', it gives the processes SystemFiles, TextureFiles and MPMaps consecutively, and after I shut these processes down, install completes itself. The game refuses to run after doing this though...

    SP2 installed by any chance?

Try running Windows in safe mode and installing then.

Don't think I have SP2 installed - in any case, installing it through safe mode caused the exact same problem.

Try asking on the official forums, might be a known issue...

I forgot you mentioned you use XP Pro when I asked hubby to install on his computer - he has XP Home. It loaded fine, he's trying to run it now <waiting> and it seems to work okay. He has the Game of the Year edition version 1112F and SP2. It might be the version of DirectX, but probably you need SP2. The website accessed in the game menu goes to Deus Ex 2 and we didn't find hide nor hare of Deus Ex. Here is a link that might be useful:

    Good luck!

This is the GOTY edition? I did a quick search and found out that several people have the same problem, however, I didn't find any solution, unfortunately. Besides, IIRC Windows XP is on the not supported list for Deus Ex, so problems running it is expected.
