Anyone played this yet? I've been playing it today, not the type of game I normally play, but it got a good review.. Anyway, it's fun so far, very addictive, what's your opinion of it so far?

I've only played the demo, but it is very good. Though the "Easy" difficulty should be rated as "retard" difficulty. Tried it a couple times, and they never even built any ships with any fighting capacity. They just sat there, occasionally building a colony ship which was easy to destroy. No transports, no fighters, no defenders.

The game is rather amusing for a while. Soon, however, you'll notice that you can get to a point during a game with the computer where your pretty much unstoppable... where your planatary defenses can destroy any attacks launched against them.

on second thoughts, I actually think it sucks now, when I started a large game, it just gets tedius to look after all of the planets and ships, it was good at first though, different I suppose.

Tested it in hopes it could be a solid replacement for the age-old Alpha Centauri, but for some reason it just felt too "basic" and lacking. IIRC, I also found the lack of "cancel building" -button and unprofessional writing rather annoying.

It just lacked the charm. The reviews were more about hype than truth, I think.

Nothing to do about the writing, but cancelling buildings is pretty easy. Just select the building in the building queue (or on the map), and hit the X at the top of the building queue. Bye bye effort. ;)

Are we talking about the same version? When I still had this game and played it, I was pretty sure there was no "X", "Cancel", or the like anywhere in the queue, map, or whole screen.

It was a tiny little thing, right on the bar with "Build Queue" or whatever the title was. I used it several times.

It was different in the original GalCiv, though. There you'd just select something different to build, since there weren't "plots" to build on.

I have and enjoy the game though Sarevok touched on a subject that I also hold similar opinions about. In a 'massive' map type (you know, true galactic empires here) there is far too much micromanaging.
