[IMG] When i started my ad&d game as Priest of lathander i dustributed my character points thusly:
    str 3
    dex 10
    const 6
    wis 18
    intel 18
    char 18

I reckoned with significat gains of these stats(oh well if not significatn, then at least something, a measely char point in 2 levlels.. or 3 levels..) Now i am playing... and gaining levels.. and no char points are added.. damn Are they really fixed, capped to those you have in the beginning????
If so the total amount of them should be equal or similar for ALL PC AND NPC characters.. but it varies dramatically.. Pls, explain this, i am about to give up playing...
....ok, i am exaggerating :) game rules...

Traditionally, a stat score is determined by a roll of three 6-sided dice (though some races may gain a score of 19 or 20 in some stats). Thus, the total sum of your stat points will vary. In Planescape: Torment you gain one additional stat point when you level up - in BG you don't. So your base stats are indeed fixed.

There are, however, items in the game that will boost your stat scores, such as belts of giant strength & stuff...

You wan to say that when i create a character, the number of stats to distribute is 3 6-dice rolls?
Thus i can get char like this (if i restart patiently enough):
    str 18
    con 18
    dex 18
    wis 18
    int 18
    cha 18??????
OR IF I AM UNLUCKY THEN:
    str 3
    con 3
    dex 3
    wis 3
    int 3
    cha 3?????????
Thats very unlikely of course.. but in multiplayer too much would depend on JUST luck....
Kinda dishonest, couse char of small stats WILL NEVER BE AS GOOD AS LUCKY ONE... damn.. now thats bad...
Morale: Restart diligently boys... Restart and you will be rewarded what the blazes!

There are more ways to roll for the character points in AD&D. There's also a rule you can play where you roll with 4 dices of 6 (4d6) and the lowest doesn't count. But normally in AD&D, you roll first and then you look at your rolls and decide what class the best is for you.

But in BG2, they make it all a lot easier for you. You can decide how many points you can lower strength and give more to wisdom or whatever. And you can always re-roll for a better roll. A good roll is average 14,5.
But I really don't see the problem. Ok I would give a priest much more strength but there are many girdles/gauntlets in the game that give strength of 18/00, 19, 20, 21. And when you give your priest a profiency for War-Hammer you can give him even Crom Fayr, the powerful warhamemr that sets your strength to 25. So nothing to worry.

Yes i can train, advance, gain exp and so on i know it... BUT
    WAS I RIGHT HYPOTETICALLY?
    I MEAN:
When i have created the character and not satisfied with its stats, restarting and recreating new character will change its stats?
Simple: are starting total amount of character stat points fixed or allocated by computer randomly (within 3 to 18 for each stat)????
    Thats a FUNDAMENTAL Question....

Random of course. If it wasn't there would be no need for the reroll button since you redistribute between the stats anyway.

So reroll til you get a decent SUM and the redistribute depending on what class you want to play.

If it makes you feel better, kasio, in NWN you'll be able to increase your ability scores every 4 levels.

Just a thought , or you could play BG1 to death like I did , a number of times and get your stats up with tombs of power, and then import you character into BG2 and there you go. But that may be construed as cheating by some people on this forum. As the tomb were taken out , due to it being unfair or something.

I play a mage and am finding it hard enough keeping the bugger alive even with high stats , with a full party of six.

Pity I did'nt know about shadowkeeper then. :)

...or if you insist on playing with high stats (for some strange reason :p), you could always ctrl-shift-8 your stats, and adjust for fairness afterwards...
