    VROLG

    Which sounds like a dreadful monster from Dragon Age, but in fact merely describes a presiding judge at a higher state court in Germany.

    The most horrible/funny acronym I know is SUPA for my faculty's subject information service (in Serbian, supa mean soup).

    Imagine saying "I'll check the soup for my test results." "I'll go to soup for the handouts." "It should be in soup."

    Immunology uses a lot of nice funny ones, but I can't remember any from the top of my head. :( Will think about it.

    The best acronyms are from the military, but I won't steal T2B's and Drew's thunder. I'll defer to those who have served for that.

    My two favorites that have got into every day vernacular are FUBAR and SNAFU.

    Sounds like a pretty S***y place to go to school... :p

    @Caradhras - I fail to see how SCUBA (Self-Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus) is funny... I've got my own SCBA at work, and it's only funny when you accidentaly put a tank of N2O (nitrous oxide) on it instead of O2. :shake:

    Now, that is funny.

    If you try and repeat SCUBA a few times out loud you might enjoy the sound of that word. Repeat it slowy and in a booming voice. It has a nice woody ring to it. Wood is a good word too. :)

    Right - I thought most people were aware of FUBAR and SNAFU because... well... they have got into every day vernacular. There are numerous others that would not be as familiar to most people.

    The Navy uses a lot of abbreviations -- which can, of course, be found in the DICNAVAB -- but ancronyms are more rare (given they need to make a pronouncable word). But here's a few....

    bohica -- bend over, here it comes again
    boss -- being on ship's sucks
    navy -- never again volunteer yourself - or - need any vasoline yet
    penis -- pointless exercise not involving sailors
    slob -- senior line (officer) on board
    wag -- wild ass guess
