if you are tired of the normal races here's a fun idea:)
    this is what i did:
i made a list like this
    1 human
    2 half elf
    3 elf
    4 dwarf
    5 gnome
    6 hafling
    7 half orc
    8 aasimar
    9 tiefing
    10 fire genasi
    11 water genasi
    12 earth genasi
    13 air genasi
    14 pit fiend
    15 yuan ti
    16half dragon
    17 rakshasa
    18 half celestial
    19 half fiend
    20 orc

then you make a module called special char equipment or something

then you take a 20d dice and roll
if you for example got elf you could use a dice to determine what kind of elf you are(drow, sun and so on)
lets say you got aasimar then you would grab your forgotten realms campaign setting book and find the aasimar stats, then you would make an aasimar amulet which would grant all the aasimar stats and save the module.

then make an elf or human and choose subrace and type Aasimar then join the module you just made and pick up the amulet
then just equip it and your an aasimar:)
    obviously you need the following:
dices, players handbook, forgotten realms campaign setting, dm guide and monster manual(for making races)

    this is great fun:)
i hope everyone understood cause i know i suck at explaining:D

I tried this with a drow elf, but it never actually worked. Could not put the stats in the book into the amulet.
