    [​IMG] I was just reading some posts and I've noticed that a lot of people either have not filled in From: in their profiles or they have put something witty.

    From what I can see these boards are read from numerous countries and I was thinking it would be better if people would put more accurate information.

    I'm curious where the permafrost is melting :p as well as many others.

    Ida know - I just felt like changing it, but that is a good point. Not sure why all the anonymity is necessary here. Names, yes for obvious reasons. But locations? Naw, come on and share people!

    Switzerland :) The rabbit got that right.

    I used to have that in my location, but then I got jealous of all the other people who had so colourful descriptions of their whereabouts. I was thinking about "top of Europe" because of topographical reasons, but considering my usual blatant nationalism, I thought that would make a wrong impression.

    Although my from: field is filled, I have no problem with people leaving it empty or having some witty remark in it. If folks prefer it that way, who are we to try to force them to change ?
    Plus, if you really want to know where someone is from, you can always PM the person. ;)

    I really don't see any way to enforce it as a policy... Those who want to enter the info truthfully already do, those who don't want to or rather leave something made up there do as well. If I made a real location obligatory those who wouldn't want to disclose it would just lie on the form or leave it blank. Which wouldn't be an improvement in any way.

    well, with enough effort, you could enforce it -- if they lied you could tell that by analyzing their IP and seeing if they're telling the truth, but that would be a huge waste of time, would it not? I don't see the benefit to such a cost of time.

    Checking someone's IP is not even remotely something I would do unless I had a very good reason (like needing to ban them). And even an IP doesn't tell you anything more than the country someone is from.
