Believe it or not, this is the first time I've ever done this: Kill Brage rather than return him to the temple. I always assumed that since returning him to the temple was the "good" way to do things, it gave the best reward. This is not the case. While you get signifcantly more money for turning him over to the temple (you only get 250 gp for bringing his body back, but IIRC the temple reward is 900 gp) killing him gets you way more experience. If you turn him over to the temple, you get 1,000 XP, with no fighting, and they instantly transport you back to town. On the other hand, if you kill him (and the relative mage with him whose name escapes me), you end up with a lot more:

    Brage: 1400 XP
    Mage: 650 XP
    Reward at Nashkel: 500 XP

So clearly, for the XP seekers of the world, you more than double the XP, all the way up to 2550 XP. Clearly, if you can take him, this is the way to go. Plus, money is never an object in the long run, so the extra 650 gp won't really matter.

I never killed him myself either. I think that is because I always played BG as a good guy. I was thinking to play the whole series with a chaotic neutral thief, and killing Brage would fit just nicely...

Hmmm while I would have killed Brage, had I ever found him, his was one side-quest that I could never quite complete - due to his elusive nature and my lack of patience to search everywhere for some crazy (literally) NPC. Maybe next time.

Well you can actually kill Brage after you take him to the temple for full exp from him, the cleric won't even attack you (and you loose no reputation).

Actually, if you explore every inch of all the maps, the XP will not matter either.. Last time I played through the game (without TOTSC installed) I reached my XP-cap as I finished the Bandit camp.. When I got to the Temple of Bhaal I installed TOTSC.. I'm now fighting the Greater Wyverns in Durlag's Tower, and when I've beaten them, I'm certain the XP-cap will be reached again.. That's why you still can do the Brage-quest the "good" way.. Because i finished the wo last chapters with the same amount of XP.. ;)

You can hit the XP cap *and* gain more gold than you'll ever need if you play the game well enough, but if you encounter Brage early on and can take him in a fight the XP will benefit you quite a lot.
