My Fighter/Thief has never been able to detect traps. Is there something I have to push or can multiclass thiefs not detect traps?

If you're wearing armor (anything higher than leather I believe) you'll have to remove it. Your thief can't find traps in armor heavier than that because their movements are restricted. They need to be nimble and be wearing little or no armor to do this.

there is a Detect Trap Icon on the bottom of the screen when you have your thief selected. if your thief is wearing any armor higher than studded leather, you wont be able to use any of your thieves abilities.

When playing PnP we always used modifiers for thieving skills when wearing leather or St. leather armor. anybody know if this is the case in IWD and BG.

Hmmm. Are we playing the same game here? My fighter/thief can detect traps regardless of her armor. There is no significant penalty, if indeed there is any. I've finished the game four times, always have a fighter/thief in the party, and they always work this way.

Yes, she does have to take the armor off to disarm the traps she finds or to hide in shadows, but not for trap detection.

sibley is right. A fighter/thief can find traps with any kind of armor on. You just have to take it off before you can disarm them.

Unless it's the case that imacbad just can't find the "find traps" icon, his problem may be that his thief simply has very low percentile in that ability.

Baldur's Gate had a glitch that would sometimes turn off your thief's traps searching when you selected for the whole group, but I haven't had this problem with IWD.
