Final Bodhi assault and Eric VanStraaden

I must say, I've just come upon the only poorly designed quest in BGII. I'm about to destroy Bodhi with the help of Drizzt, a shadow thief, and a paladin called Eric VanStraaden. The problem is, VanStraaden has some kind of sword that shoots off fireballs. I've tried fighting Bodhi 5 times, and each time he sets off a fireball, then blames me, saying I attacked him!!!! WTF?! He and the thief both leave, saying I'll pay for double crossing them. Is there some way to get Van Straaden out of my party peacefully before the fight? My PC is a paladin, and I'd like my next visit to Radiant Heart HQ to be peaceful.

You should be able to converse with him and dismiss him if I recall that fight....go downstairs just as if you were going into Bodhi's lair, but hold up on the steps after you load the area...all of your allies should be there and if you can dismiss them, that will be the time and place to do it.

 

BTW I think that sword is Harbringer +3.

 

Your main char is not by chance using a popular katana named C'Fury?

IIRC it is so, that if it's stun effect comes to work it has the effect that there is a circle of fire around your enemy. If Eric is close to the circle, he starts this conversation iirc - switch over to a less harassing weapon and you shouldn't have this problem

 

if you wanna slay some mean vampire ass goto the gate district in the hotel main room there is a door in that door there is a linch behind that linch there is a chest in that chest is a sword called say slayer it servs a thrust of daylight out if the vamps dont make a save vs. spell it dose 1030 damage in hitpoints to em it killed bodi in one shot good luck

The sword Garathorn is talking about is the Daystar. It has a Sunray spell. That's also a lv7 cleric spell; Bolt of Glory, another lv7 cleric spell, also works. You may be romancing your cleric (for some reason, Aerie, Jaheira, Viconia, AND Anomen are all healers of some sort -- to make your life difficult in the Bodhi battle probably). In that case, as soon as Bodhi

then get another one of the cleric NPC's to join you temporarily. Don't give them any good equipment, though. As soon as you get your romance back, dump the substitute.

 

thats the name of the sword i couldent remember it but that spell also comes on the helmet of fire risistance found in the mind fryer cave in the under dark

back to the subject: I really suggest not getting the paladins involved in the first place.. this problem is common and difficult to solve. besides, drizzt should be help enough.

 

Drizzt. Don't mention him. I got charmed (Fighter) and killed him. I looted his corpse and - YEAH! YEAH! - his scimitars rule... BUT!!!

You ever heard of a "Malchor Harpell"?

Just checked through IEEE. Now I see the reference to Malchor. Now I'm glad I never fought Drizzt and company.

how does sunray (from daystar) do that much damage?? (1000+)

i know it does, cos i use it lots and its my fave anti-undead weapon, but 1000 points of damageis just overkill
