RPG Vault has interviewed Ferret Baudoin from Obsidian, the Lead Designer working on Neverwinter Nights 2. The conversation is well thought out, spans over two pages and answers interesting questions in length. Here's a snip:

Jonric: Given the critical and commercial success of the first game, why has it taken until now for a sequel? And how did Obsidian come to be the developer?

Ferret Baudoin: The short answer - sometimes it takes time to line up the right people at the right place to make the magic happen. A lot of us folk at Obsidian are former Black Isle vets - myself included, although for a far shorter stint than many. I know Feargus Urquhart (or El Capitan as we call him - OK, maybe only as I call him that behind his back) had approached Atari about working on Neverwinter Nights 2 not too long after Obsidian Entertainment was formed. But these things rarely come together quickly.

The founders' relationship with BioWare really helped us in getting the deal, because many of our core peeps have worked with BioWare for many years. I'm certain that Black Isle's track record of great games like Fallout, Icewind Dale and Planescape: Torment helped, too. :)
