1UP have interviewed Feargus Urquhart, CEO, Obsidian Entertainment Inc, although he agreed to be addressed otherwise. They talk about his personal Vietnam in Interplay's Black Isle Studios, a bit about his private life and then move on to Neverwinter Nights 2 development, especially the focus on single player mode and NPCs. Here's a bit of what they say:

CGW: gotcha. What would you say is the one thing that you wanted to change most design-wise between NWN1 and 2?

FUrquhart: Design-wise our big focus is the single player game. We really want this to wow people and make them feel like they are playing a great story.

CGW: good call. the first game felt like a test run while the modules/expansions that came afterwards seemed more thought out.

FUrquhart: We've been talking a lot about older RPGs and how RPGs have evolved.

FUrquhart: We want to get back to the place where the world really played a role in the game. When you were playing Ultima IV, it wasn't just about your stats and the next big sword. It was about your place in the world.

FUrquhart: I guess we want to make it an adventure.

Multiplayer is an important aspect, but something in me is very rejoiced with the news about NPC development emphasis. I grow pretty attached to those folks, sometimes. The part where Mr Urquhart calls upon Ultima IV also seems promising to me.

Well, for multiplayer we already have nwn1 and the community that has grown around it. So I would be alot more interested in a good solo game atm, than in another multiplayer platform. We already have a good one, so please give us what is missing, a good involving solo story with good rp.

Agreed. It doesn't look like the whole world of NWN1 multiplayer is dying any soon.
