How the best laid plans are laid to waste. I'm a pretty good fantasy football player. But it looks like this is going to be one of those years where I'm reminded that luck plays a role, and sometimes you just get unlucky.

I'm in two leagues this year, and I'm 0-2 in both. (These are leagues that I finished 1st and 2nd last year, with all but one member returning in each league, so it's not like I'm sadly outclassed by my competition.)

I'm just getting hosed. In the friends league, I had a 179 bomb dropped on me in week one - this is a standard scoring league by the way - and so there's no way you're beating that, even though my team put up an admirable 142, which is usually plenty enough to win most weeks. This week, I entered last night's game down by 12 (my opponent had 122, but at 110, I was in the game), and I still had Peyton Manning to go, so I think I'm good. 240 yards, 1 TD, 3 INT later, I get 9 points and a loss.

In the work league, I feel like my season is already over. I spent 4 of my first 5 picks on RBs, since WR was so deep. I figured there were plenty of decent receivers to get futher down in the draft, and that by picking 4 RBs, I'd be able to start a RB at flex every week, and even would be covered in case one of them got hurt. And the WR part worked out just fine. Dez Bryant, DeSean Jackson, and Antonio Brown. I can live with that.

The problem is that the four RBs I picked were Matt Forte, Marshawn Lynch, Fred Jackson and Michael Turner. Forte and Jackson both got hurt, and since their handcuffs went in rounds 7 and 8 respectively, I didn't get either of them. Of course I have Robert Turbin and Jacquizz Rodgers - so it's not like I don't like handcuffs, it's just that the wrong RBs got hurt.

So what was supposed to be a point of strength is now one of weakness. I will have to start Michael "1.5 yards per carry" Turner whose point output is totally dependent upon him scoring a TD for the foreseeable future. And so much for having a RB in the flex spot even on bye weeks. I won't have a RB in the flex spot on non-bye weeks.

At least Turner did score last night....

But Injuries early on will kill your chances. I doubt Jackson will see a start anytime soon with Spiller running like a madman. Though the paper's here are saying that Forte will be back sooner than first thought, so you might be okay there. Keep an eye out. The problem wiht Forte is the Bears will use Bush at the goal line, which can take TDs away from Forte.

I am in 2 leagues as well this year with Brady/T.Richardson(1-1) in one league and Ryan/Sproles(2-0) in the other. My opponents have not scored abundantly so far though, which is nice as I usually have the bad luck in leading the league in PA.

Yeah, Fred Jackson is a much bigger problem than Forte. At least I'm confident Forte will go back to being the starter upon his return. Fjax is likely returning as a backup.

And yes, Michael Turner did well enough last night. The problem was the two WRs I decided to start were Dez Bryant and Antonio Brown. Yup. I sat DeSean Jackson. So the loss in the work league this week was totally on me. Switching Desean in and Dez out would have won me the week. Forte did start for me, and he didn't do well but I couldn't have predicted the injury. And Philip Rivers, is my QB in that league - he played well, and like I said, Turner did well enough, and Lynch had a solid game. So that one move cost me. The only other guy who underperformed on that team Tamme.

But it's the Peyton start that ticks me off. Normally, 12 points from Peyton is a safe bet. There's no way you don't get it if he scores 2 TDs, and 240 with 1 TD is enough - if you don't throw 3 picks. And of course he toyed with me at the end of the game. Two TDs in the 4th quarter to make it close - but McGahee scored both on runs.
