Guys... FEAR... Words cannot describe how scary this game is. Resident Evil games are a walk in the park compared... I've played the game for an hour, and it's scared the living **** out of me already... It's so damn freaky. There's your cliche ghost girl that just appears every now and then out of nowhere, walking through flames towards you... You see the main bad guy ALL the time. He just walks past doorways in front of you, and disappears... Bullets do nothing to him. And every now and then a dead mans face just fills the screen... play it at night, with the door closed, curtains drawn and lights off, it spins your head out!

    Anyone else played it?

I've heard some really good things about it (not surprising considering Monolith are behind it). I'll probably get it and play it eventually.

Downloaded it and gave it a shot. Pretty decend shooting, but I found the regular setting of some SWAT guy vs. some clone-soldiers pretty boring after Half Life 2. Same old shooting, but I guess all FPS-fraggers love it.

If you want something scary, Quake 4 was actually pretty good.

I actually think FEAR is pretty unique with it's little set-pieces and stuff. There are things that happened in the game that I've never seen in an FPS before, and that's pretty rare in a genre that can get a bit samey.

    F.E.A.R is GOD.
It's probably one of the best shooters I've ever played. And the scariest.

It's much more than just a SWAT guy against clone soldiers. No spoilers, but any point at which you're not mowing down squadrons of enemies (and they ALWAYS come in groups), you'll be trying to simultaneously look in every direction to make sure that creepy little girl isn't sneaking up on you.

    Which she will be.

im not too keen on the quake games, never really found them scary, your just fighting a bunch of monsters. but in FEAR, its the not knowing whats going on that does it for most players.

for example, something what has goto be plagueing barmy right now is "who the hell is this girl?"

I like genuinely spooky games, like the Silent Hill series for instance...most of these FPS scary games are more of the enemies jumping out from around corners and startling you...Doom 3, Quake 4, FEAR...they're all the same.

And before you ask, yes, I HAVE played FEAR...finished it and wasn't too impressed. Sure, it startles you...but it doesn't creep you out so much you don't want to be alone in a room for like a week... :D

That was my roomie who played Silent Hill 4 on my PS2 last year...

i had made some screenies a long time ago after i played it. i was thinking to writing a review, but then i just got lazy.
bottom line, selling point is the horror and it is not even doing a every good job at it.

impaler, easily your favorite weapon in the game. Shoots out big needles. And if you did it right, you nail people onto walls.

21st century, emails, mobil phone, faxes and everything, people in the world of FEAR communicates by voice messages on phone and radio. And the two are you repetitively used story driving mechanism. pretty lame.

If you have watched the japanese movie series "ringu" or it's english equivalent "the ring", you might react to the most horror effect of the game with "meh"

It's true that F.E.A.R doesn't stand up to the standards of horror-centric games like Silent Hill (which I've never played and NEVER WILL), but that's because the focal point of the games is FPS combat, with atmospheric horror filling in the gaps between the fast-paced fighting.
