I want to extract Sherincal's dialogue as .wav files so I can use it to make a character sound pack. How do I go about doing this?

    Near Infinity + ACM2WAV.EXE works.

The wavfiles is still coded in the ACM format or whatever, so they wont work in media player, but they work for the games.

I knew a way to get them playable in mediaplayer as well once, but i have completelly forgotten.

Anyways you can play the sounds from within NearInfinity, and then extract them, so you can write up notes or something, wich file is what and then mash them together as a soundset.

OK, I have Near Infinity and ACM2WAV, and I can play dialogue clips in Near Infinity. But when I export one, the wav file is useless and doesn't play in anything.

I need a way to extract and break up dialogues like this one: "Stop. Do not think. It is now time for you to act. It is enough that you know what will happen if you continue to fail. And it might not only be your head on the spike of our legion... Isair and Madae could even hold me responsible. And this I will NOT allow!"

Yeah, as i said, the sound files extracted will still be in the ACM coded format. they are unplayable in mediaplayer or winamp or such. BUT they work in the game. so you can just extract them, rename them into normal soundset names, and copy it to the sound folder, and it WILL WORK ingame.

And i have absolutelly no idea how i managed to convert some of them a bunch of years back...

Or you can use the blunt solution...turn off all sound effects and background music, have a sound recorder running in the background, and just record into a raw WAV file the conversation files y'want as you play the game. Then you can split that raw WAV file into several smaller pieces, depending on which parts of the dialogue y'want. It's clutzy, but it works...if you have strategically-placed savegames for both of Sherincal's dialogues (in the orc and ice fortresses).

I did something like this to pull out the voicefiles for the Sorceress in WC3 for a Windows theme. Every time I minimized a window: "Get down, Sparky." Oh yeah!

Can you recommend a good freeware sound recorder for 98SE?
