Extensive Dungeons & Dragons Online Review at GameSpy

    GameSpy has reviewed Dungeons & Dragons Online: Stormreach, rating it 3 out of 5. The reviewer seems to be convinced that Turbine fell out of touch with what makes MMORPG so alluring by trying to stick to the pen and paper convention too much. The review spans over four pages and provides a lot of insight into the game along with individual impressions of different members of the editorial team, such as this one:

    Miguel: I would say that I was having fun about 30 percent of the time while playing D&D Online. When you have a good group, and you're doing one of the better designed dungeons, the experience is just about as good as PvE gets in an MMO. The trouble is that it's hard to find both a good group and a good dungeon. The social tools make it really easy to find a group: I've never been "LFG" for more than 20 minutes, which is pretty marvelous. But some of the missions just strike me as being "first pass." They're not polished, and in many cases, the rewards aren't commensurate with just how badly you get your ass kicked for making a mistake -- or worse yet, for not having an ideal group configuration. I'm an old-time D&D player, but I'm not too sure if such a verbatim approach to pen and paper conventions was really called for...
