[IMG] :oI am not sure if my game is bugged, but I recive NO xps when I get attacked by summoned monsters which I slay. It is not an CR issue as in "Targos Modd" even, the summoned spellcasters don't give up xps and they are damn hard to kill, yet I get xp for orcs. In other games like BG series you get xp from defeated summons, after all they are out to kill you as a normal monster,so why not here???? The Battle Square also(Ice temple)has creatures that can slay you,but I recieve no xp per defeat? Why? I am confused and frustrated by Shadows(Chapter 2) trying to kill me but no xp per defeat,so what is the point? Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

It's IWD2. If you want extra XP, pick a location where you can get attacked and rest. Rinse and repeat. You should get a little extra that way.

In D&D it is supposed to work that way. No XP for summons, there's a reason behind it.
Why should you get less XP from a mage casting fireball (which is obviously more dangerous) than from a mage casting summon monster 1 ?

My confusion is not the xps,but in other AD&D (ie baldur's gate series)games you recieve xps per kill,so is IWD2 glitched or is it new 3.5 rules?

kylan271, I think you misunderstood kmonster. What he was getting at was that the XP for surviving the mage's spells is included in the XP gained for defeating him. Otherwise, as in his example, more XP would be gained from killing a summoning-mage than a fireball-casting mage of equal level. Just assume all the XP you would normally gain from killing a monster is given to you as part of the mage's XP value.

And yes, IWD2 uses updated D&D rules- not the AD&D ruleset.

I'd rather say the AD&D games are glitched.
