[IMG] Listening to how many people (including myself) have NPCs they love to hate, it got me thinking. Why isn't there an evil version of the Flirt Pack?

-Does Nalia's constant whining make you want to b****-slap her until she shuts up?

-Or perhaps you're playing an elf PC, and every once in a while when Korgan starts talking about "pansy elves", you get the uncontrollable urge to smack him upside the head.

-In general, have you ever just wanted to kick an NPC in the cahones when they mouth off?

The possibilities are nearly endless. As an evil leader, you should be able to smack around any NPC you want to. Too much abuse might cause them to leave, or even challenge you to a duel, but you should at least have the option. And of course, ANY abuse directed towards the object of a romance should end it IMMEDIATELY. (IMHO, it should also cause the gods to strike your character down, but I guess we have to draw the line somewhere.)

Does anybody have any interest in working on a project like this?

EDIT: Changed title to (hopefully) attract modders.

 I love it. Wish I had the knowledge to work on such a mod. Nothing would give me more pleasure than to be able to at least say to Nalia- "shut the *!@! up!"

I second that. You should go to PocketPlane.net or some such place and tell someone to make this!

While I'm on the subject of mods, how about getting to keep all that XP you accumulate from soloing BG1? Sure there are a couple ways around it, but wouldn't it be nice if we didn't have to mess around with it?

    Current Option #1:
Write down how much XP your character has and CLUA at the beginning. :nolike:

Current Option #2 (yet another trick I basically tripped over *sigh*):
Import your character back into BG1. Dual them to another class. Export. Import into BG2. The previous class can't have its XP clipped, but it does count toward the 161k cap at the beginning of SoA. So if you have >161k devoted to the previous class, your second one will get shot down to 0. Still not fair. :grr:

Give me a preaching pack. I want to make Nalia's aunt change her ways, I want to convert Irenicus.

Various spins on this have been proposed over the years, including but not limited to under the umbrella of "Mod For the Wicked."

While I have nothing against including "ways to be bad" in my projects, to me it's not an interesting project to go through and boost the badass quotient of BG2.

@Western Paladin: I already copied it over to PPG so everyone there would have a look-see at the idea. (Not all modders frequent sorcerers place, so I thought reposting there would help a little. I'd like to see this mod happen, too.)

@Felinoid: you are quoted verbatim and given full credit for the idea. I hope you aren't offended that I took the liberty of reposting your idea there.

    @Drew:
:whoa: Not in the least! :thumb: Thanks for doing the leg-work. I don't know where their forum is anyhow, and to be honest, I don't care who gets the credit so long as it gets made.

    /me crosses fingers.

Oh what fun it would be to play my wicked half-elf with Nalia, Anomen, Imoen (in the dungeon), Korgan. I'd probably end up with -40 Rep.

edit: Oh and be able to smack Nalia's Aunt around too. Of course you can kill her if you want.

It is an interesting idea, I suppose, though I don't know that I'd take an NPC along if I knew I was going to smack them around sooner or later. :) In one sense it'd be wasted XP spent adventuring with an NPC you dislike!

It wouldn't be too hard, though, to have a series of 'anti-flirts' to choose from, after a while leading to the NPC drawing swords against you or just running away.

It might also be an idea to have NPCs interject and complain about your actions more in certain quests, providing more opportunities to arge with them then.

It's going to take more than a single modder to get something like this out anytime soon. This will take a lot of work, mostly writing. The coding would actually be the easy part.

:hmm: The work might go easier if it were done in versions focused on one NPC in particular (one the modder understands) and each new version included a new NPC. I figured that might be the way it would work for the mod NPCs like Kelsey or Solaufein, but perhaps it could be adapted to the initial Bioware NPCs as well. I know, I can make a poll!

Did someone mention writing? I know nothing about coding, but if you need someone to write responses or scripting, I'm in with both feet. Sorry for the splash, Felinoid.

    EDIT: Here's an example:

(After giving a begger a gold piece, Nalia speaks.)
Nalia: Is that all? What are you saving up for, <CHARNAME>? A gold sword?

    1) <smirking> Yes, I am.
    2) Oh, silly me. I thought I might need 20,000 gold or so to rescue my childhood friend from the deceitful, corrupt hands of the Cowled Wizards. <taps Nalia in head with a knuckle> Whaddya think, nitwit?
    3) <you roll your eyes at Nalia but say nothing>
    4) Actually, gold isn't a great foundation for forging into a weapon. The metal is too soft to stand up to more than one hit and...<you continue talking about the properties of gold until the party falls asleep>

Western Paladin (in another thread) brought up the idea of a single variable to keep the Abuse Level in. I think this is a good idea, as newly joined NPCs would likely be warned by the 'veterans' about what had previously happened, and how they can avoid it happening to them. Individual NPCs would have their own levels of tolerance for it of course (a certain number the AL can't go above), so they would rebel at different times.

This would be considerably easier than my original idea of separate variables for each NPC which would only include personal instances of abuse, with outrage at the abuse of others being of lesser value.

WP's idea integrates the idea of group outrage, while mine focuses more on how each NPC resents their own treatment. Perhaps both could be utilized to make it more realistic. :hmm:

P.S. Good news! It seems there is a lot of interest by modders over at rpgdungeon.net, so it looks like this might actually get made!!!
