It's a little bit difficult to Hide in Shadow, period...Go get the chainmail, and a bevy of invisibility potions, and you'll be set.

Shadow Dragon armor is wearable by theives. Hide in shadows and backstabbing is the most lethal attack in the game. My assassin, with boots of speed, has 60% of the kills in the game I am currently playing. Hide in shadows, backstab, run out of veiw, hide in shadows, run behind, backstab, etc...

Kinda off topic here but in ToB there [snip]. But in SoA the the best chain mail is Sylvan chain, or armor of faith.

Youre not meant to discuss TOB in this forum :)

Ive had no difficulty hiding in shadows with the shadow dragon scale....

There are so many items in the game that will provide you with improved invisibility or improved hiding in shadows, what its not a big issue in my opinion.

Personally, I wouldnt equip a specialist thied or thief mage with it, but its the fighter/thief's dream armour....

Its the best armour for a dual/multi type mage, since you can cast while wearing it. Having said that, there are some pretty useful robes out there.
For a none casting thief I would use the shadow dragon scale - by far the best armor for a thief.

My perfectly different opinion is that for mages, mage-thiefs especially, the best "armor" available in SoA is the robe of the aprenty since it (a) has a splendid AC, (b) it allows to use rings/ cloaks of protection and (c) had no thievery penalties.

In my opinion, the robe of Vecna is a must for any mage. It's spell casting speed bonus is incredible!

I can't beleive nobody mentioned the Bladesinger Chain! that's the best armour for a Fighter/Mage by far! also, if you want to blow some cash, get the Bracers of Defense AC3. Those are

Where do you find the Bladesinger Chain and what AC does it give you? I want some better armor for my Barbarian who is currently wearing the Darkmail (+3 I think). I was considering picking up the Jester's chain +4 from Spellhold but won't if there are better options out there.

Are you refering to the Bladesinger Chain? IMO, that is the best armor for a multi-classed character. The Bladesinger Chain is looted off the Shadow Dragon in the Elven City...I can't remember how to spell it. :rolling:

The Bladesinger mail is an elven chainmail +4. It gives you a base AC of 1 and you can still cast your spells. It's a must for a fighter/mage.
For a thief/mage, I would go also for Bladesinger mail. You keep the ability to cast spells and the thieving skills penalties are not so big.

You can get the Bladesinger mail from the black dragon in Suldanessellar, the elven city. I think it's called Nizzi...whatever
