Elemental transformation in conjunction with spells

Assuming that it is impossible to cast spells while in elemental form (druid ability), how can you conjunction elemental transformation with spells/abilities?

Is it, for instance, possible to cast Globe of Blades and then transform into elemental form without the spell being cancelled?

Obviously this could quite easily be tested but so far my Totemic Druid has only reached lvl. 13 (lvl. 15 seems so far away), so…
Anyways it seems to me that the elemental transformation ability needs to be beefed up in one way or another to really matter…

By the way, are the Earth/Fire Elementals’ (transformation) attacks considered to be +1, +2, +3 etc.?

I've only been able to test this with Jaheira in one of my save games, but as far as I've seen spells will not be cancelled. Truth be known, I've only tested this with ironskins, because I've put this game on hold, starting over with an evil game and a all nature game (only rangers and druids in the party, later Imoen for roleplaying purposes).

I've seen Jaheira hit golems with her fists while in Earth Elemental form, so I asume they count as + weapons.
