Easy spam protection for comments?

    For blog comments, guestbook entries and the like. I need a free service or source code or preferably just an idea how to code something that most comment spammers won't be able to break. Any suggestions?

    I used this guestbook software which had in-build spam-prevention. Very simple one too: look a picture, type in the code, post. Kept the bots off efficiently. I just can't remember the name, but you can look for it at FatScripts.com and HotScripts.com.

    However, I have also noticed that guestbooks aren't really necessary. Only a very few people read them and even fewer post in them, so you might as well ditch it.

    As to comments, you could simply require the people to write in a pre-defined code before posting. Not a very difficult thing to do in JavaScript, since it requires only one extra field and two to three lines of code.
