Lessons You'd Like Turbine to Learn from Other MMORPG's Mistakes

I just wanted to say thanks for the thread, guys. Knowing what you liked and didn't in previous games is very helpful to us. Since I have been here, I have come to feel like DDO has a good mix of learning from others' experience as well as trying new things. In the future, another game will be developed and DDO will likely be included in both the "learn from mistakes/successes" columns but hopefully our infractions will be much less, since we have the advantage of so many lessons learned.

    Lvl Restriction On Items

I think it might be easier to understand if you don't think of level restrictions as some sort of weird system that's tacked on to the pen and paper ruleset, but instead thinking of it as me being your DM and deciding what players can and cannot have so everything is as balanced and fun as possible for everyone.

If you were to start a new campaign and tried to convince your DM to let you start out with a +5 Vorpal Sword, your DM would probably say "No, I won't allow it". In the same manner, if you were to try to twink out your new level 1 with the same +5 Vorpal sword, think of the "Level Restriction: X" as your DM saying "No, I won't allow it".

Also, some of you have wondered why level restrictions over other methods... Level restrictions have the bonus of being very, very easy to understand, even by people who have little to no previous experience with the pen and paper ruleset.

    Spellcasters do what?

If wizards and sorcerers are standing around doing nothing 80% of the time, we haven't done our jobs right. But if wizards and sorcerers are spam-casting their best spell in every combat, we also haven't done our jobs right.

As for clerics ... if clerics just stand around and cast Cure spells all day, we haven't done our jobs right either.

Fortunately, the dev team is very good at what they do

    DDO Q&A at Gamezone

    Hi Folks,

When something new comes out, if you guys want to post a link to it, that's great. If you also want to post the first couple of paragraphs as a teaser, that's fine too. And you're more than welcome (even encouraged) to quote the article and discuss it in general.

But please refrain from posting the entire contents of articles and interviews on the forums. We know it makes it easier for you guys to read, but it's not really fair to our partners.

If you have any questions about this, please let me know.

Places of Eberron YOU want to see!

Heh, we spend so much time on Xen'drik over here, that sometimes it's easy to forget about the rest of Eberron.

I'm not sure if/when DDO will ever leave Xen'drik (it's actually larger than Khorvaire), but if we do, I think my top three places to see would be Sharn, the Mournland, and Xoriat.

Are the graphics really any good?

    Just wait for E3...
