I have recently picked up BG2 again and I'm playing as a human berserker that I want to dual into a cleric. I have beaten the game many times but have never dualed a character. As a berserker I have been using my proficiencies on blunt weapons like hammers, maces and flails. I did a 'test' dual and noticed that all the berserker proficiencies are gone. My question is what happens to these proficiencies after I dual. Do they just disappear? After my cleric level exceeds the berserker level do they come back and get added to the proficiencies I select as a cleric? I would appreciated some help/advice.

    Thanks

    IIRC:
The proficiencies of the Berzerker come back and you retain the proficiencies of the Cleric after the Cleric level surpasses the Berzerker level. However, proficiencies in common are not additive, you retain the larger of the two.

Yes, those proficiencies (and the enrage ability) will return when cleric levels exceeds berserkers levels. I'm not totally sure what happens if you take same proficiencies (mace, hammers, etc.) while leveling as a cleric, though. Maybe those are wasted when berserker kicks in? I avoided this by taking missile weapons, quarterstaff and so on in the transition period when I played berserker/cleric. Excellent combination, btw ;) .

Awesome thanks for the quick reply. In that case I already messed it up but now at least I can minimize the wasted proficiencies.
