Dual Class Archer

Just a question I can't find the answer to. Picked my BG II game since years abck and started over with a human archer and had planned to dual-class him to a thief or Mage.

Well it did not work and wherever I look I can't find anything that says that it can't be done. I do have the sufficent stats with INT, DEX and STH 18.

Has anyone succeded in dual-class an archer ?

 

You cant dual class an Archer to a Thief or Mage because those arent valid multiclass combinations. No way to change that unfortunately. Rangers can only dual to Clerics, which means you cant use bows anyway.

Only way around it is to install the generic archer kit, which is a fighter kit that is extremely similar to the Ranger Archer kit. I think Tactics contains the kit. Its the only solution.

 

Thanks for the answer and the tip about the generic archer kit, I'll try that. I like the archer a lot, but he is a bit to specialized.

Would have liked to use him as my lock-picker and trap disarmer and free-up my "thief" spot.

So what can the Archer kit dual to?

If you use the BG2 Fixpack there's a component which lets you dual archers AFAIK: Link

 

Uh, oh. The dreaded fixpack subject again....

 

The only thing archers can legally dual to is a cleric, which means the only ranged weapon you can use is a sling.

No point, just use the fighter kit.

 

There is always the option of playing a Kensai dualled to whatever, although its seen as a melee only class you can easily outdamage an archer in ranged combat using Daggers (Firetooth is unbeatable).

There is also the option of Throwing Spears if you have Item Upgrade mod, mmmmm thrown Impaler.

 

while that is not really and archer, it is not a bad idea!
