GameSpy also has posted a preview of Dragonshard and here's an excerpt:

In any case, the demo itself focused on the completion of one of the Dragonshard's early scenarios, which served as the perfect showcase for the game's unique dual nature. If you're not familiar with it, it works something like this: half the time you'll be playing Dragonshard as if it were a regular RTS. That is, gathering resources, building units, fighting pitched battles with large enemy armies, and the like. Other times, though, the game will take on a markedly RPG-style flavor. Each of your "units" is comprised of "squads" and "leaders." These leaders are actually adventurers in the D&D sense of the word -- they have classes, races, and levels, as well as individual abilities, all of which make them quite formidable. Whenever you enter a dungeon-type area from one of the game's maps, the leaders will "absorb" the units that make up their squads (with larger numbers granting them more robust bonuses), and enter them as individuals. At this point, Dragonshard turns into a sort of dungeon-crawl, with encounters scaled to match the smaller-sized party. If you've played the bonus scenario included in Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, then this will seem familiar.
