    Ok, need help again.

In the Dragon's Eye section, the walkthrough says "Once you have taken care of Commander Grishum and the forces surrounding him, examine the braziers scattered throughout this area of the map. You can put a fire agate into each one to set it ablaze. When all the braziers have been lit, the idol will split open and a secret staircase becomes visible. This is the exit to the second level of Dragon’s Eye."

When I place a fire agate into a brazier, it causes the brazier to flare up but the gem does not stay there. My character ends up with 1 or more additional fire agates. Placing a fire agate into each brazier in sequence does not open the statue, just generates more gems.

Obviously I'm doing something wrong (probably really stupid too), but I can't figure out what.

    Any help appreciated.

    thanks

The agates are not supposed to stay in the brazier. There are several more agates available than braziers, but it looks like either you've hit a bug or you're overlooking a brazier. It shouldn't matter what order you put the agates in--the statue should split open as soon as each brazier has an agate. Oh, and it shouldn't let you put more than one agate into each brazier.

What do you mean that placing agates in braziers "generates more gems"? I've never seen anything like that.

I'd suggest looking carefully around that entire room. IIRC, the very first time I played IWD2, I missed one brazier (to the right of the entryway and and slightly hidden in an alcove) and was unable to get the stature to open up.

BTW hup, I presume you already know that you can hold down the ALT key to make all the braziers light up in green, right?

OK, what happens is that I approach one of the 5 braziers and the cursor changes to a hand and I click on the brazier. I get text "Placing the fire agate in the brazier causes it to suddenly erupt in magical flames". Then text "The party has gained an item" appears. Then text "The item you placed inside the brazier spins around the pan a few revolutions before tumbling out, but you catch it before it hits the ground" appears.
I do this to each brazier and get the same response and the statue doesn't open.
Today, I'm not getting extra agates like yesterday, unless one of my party who doesn't have an agate touches a brazier. Then they end up with one agate from each brazier. Yesterday, I gained about 70 agates, as each brazier was giving me back multiple agates.

The agates do not stay in a brazier.

All I can say is, "Cool, but weird. Free money, but you can't complete the game." Sounds like a bug, but just in case--how many braziers do you see?

If it's a bug you might have to reload from your last autosave.

Ok, if you've actually placed the Fire Agates into the 5 braziers (and there are 5 of them), and the statue doesn't open... type this into the cheat code console:

    ctrlaltdelete:setglobal("61BrazierTally","global",31);

This should cause the statue to open up.

Wow, thanks. The cheat console code opened the status.

Once again, I really appreciate everyone's help.

FWIW, I backed up and reloaded the game about 5 saves earlier and played through to the brazier roomagain. This time placing the agates into the braziers opened the statue with no problem.

    Go Figure.

    Thanks, again

So it was definitely a script bug then. It's not the only such bug--the Banite Quest is buggy too for instance, and everybody experiences the occasional script bug where you can't enter/exit an area until you back up and try again. But it's good to have this one known.

The whole game can be a bit buggy but it's still fun. Check out some of the fixes/patches/whatever they're called on here if you come across anything major. Believe it or not, there are some rather clever people who've put stuff on this site!
