I played BG2 more than a year ago (maybe even 2 years ago!?), but as far as I remember, those recipes are useless.
I remember memos though, he gives you tons of memos -- it worths it, each worths 100 gold.

Side note: Dradeel wasn't always a madman, in BG1 he helps you a lot in... well I want no spoiler as you might decide to play BG one day and this isn't the BG forum anyway... so he was a fine NPC in BG1 :)

I'll go ahead and spoil the whole thing, then.

    *spoiler*

Dradeel is in TotSC--he's the crazy elven mage on Werewolf Isle, which explains his paranoia and ravings about bad doggies in the asylum. He also has a recipe book in BG--bit of a cook, I think.

His recipe scroll can be sold, just like the memos.

I don't remember him ever giving away memos... do you have to do/say something special for this to happen? And does he do that whichever way you enter the asylum?

Now I remember his spellbook from TOTSC - that was funny :)

You get the memos if you keep bugging him. Him being Wanev IIRC, not Dradeel.

Wanev gives memos that can be decoded, whereas Dradeel gives a recipe for either Monkey Balls, Amnish Dragon Soup, Baldur's Delight, or, on a 1 in 10000 chance, Ruby Racks--think of Scooby Doo.

There in BG, he was not crazy, at least I saw no signs of it. Please correct me, I'm wondering what I missed.

(Information on Dradeel that I remember: He was in Balduran's ship 500 years ago, and saved the disaster of the ship by making himself invisible and using lightning... he tells all this, and when you retrieve his spellbook, he helps you...
*super spoiler* you can sleep in his house too - very useful)

Well, because the disaster occured 500 years ago, how did he survive for soo long, even for an elf, it is extremely long too stay in that house, because he is soo afraid for the lycantrophites, i assume he never came out. And another strange thing, why is he not affected, and why is he the only survivor of it, he is not a sympathic person, you would almost assume he "made" it happen.
And what really happened too Balduran, for a great adventurer, it is a shame, nothing remaines of him, besides his equipment.
And how did his equipment came to Baldur's Gate?

    Washed ashore? Somehow? *c*

I guess nobody has actually tried the recipe. I cook and bake... :D So next time I get a chance I might actually take it seriously and tell you the outcome...heh heh.
