[IMG] As some of you know, from a previous post, I recently get broadband.
I have a 1Gb download limit, after that ammount, I have to pay some extra (is not that much but...)
So, whenever I play some movie (like some funny videos that are linked in this forum), does that count as downloaded? I don't save them in my PC.
And finaly, is there some program that counts my downloads? (something that tells me how much I have downloaded).
    Regards.

Everything that comes from the net is considered "downloaded." A regular HTML file might be about 5 kb in size whereas a flash could be as much as 5 megs. 1 gig should be enough for casual browsing, but stay away from all files that are bigger than 50 megs.

You shouldn't need any separate program to monitor how much you have used of your monthly allowance. This depends of the ISP, but some allow you to login to their server to check/modify the stats. If your ISP has anything like this, you should be able to see what the "official" counter says at their end.

Now, also pay attention whether it is a download limit or a traffic limit. If it's the latter, also what you send towards the net is counted (although that is mostly negligible, unless you use p2p software).

Never heard of a limit of downloading before... When you have broadband you should pay a set amount and nothing more, no matter how and how much you use your internet.

A download limit is actually very common with broadband contracts. Usually you should never end up getting anywhere near it, unless you are on peer-to-peer sites constantly downloading pirated movies or something.

Well... now you know why they keep track of it... its easy to get who the hackez are out of the ISP, they know... Its the same thing as the cops flicking the switch at the phone company to tap ur phone, if you got x1000 times coming in then out then... thats a tell-tale sign of a p2p user. I also suggest you avoid contracts witwh ur ISP as a plan is much easier and... more flexible, nobody tells me how much i can download lol... even tho your probably right i never get close to a limit even if there is one...

I have a 10 GB/day limit, and I have been very close to breaking it (which would give me a 2 days ban) several times.

Well, actually, there are broadbands where you have no limit. But they are more expensive than those with. On the other hand, my ISP does claim they not only have higher or none limit than what I have now, but also are faster. So they clearly aim at heavy downloading people, and that also mean they probably won't investigate too much. Who would want to loose the big payers ;) .

Well, the download limit applies to these kind of offers; the next package allows 5GB limit download but almost double the price of the offer, and if you want no limit is almost 3 times the price.
As I don't download movies or games (I pay for them) I don't worry much about that. But, as I have broadband, now I visit sites like liquidgeneration where there's lots of macromedia annimations or I watch some of the clips around like games previews or movie previews and this kind of things require some 'loading' times, so I wonder if that count as download even tho I don't save them in my computer.

Well, without installing spyware on your computer or spying on you otherwise, how do you want your ISP to know what the purpose of the bits is that are going towards your computer? ;) Hence, every singly bit that goes in the direction of your computer (and with some ISPs also every single bit that goes out) is counted.
