I haven't tried this in the game, so I would like to ask: when you dual-class and eventually regain your old class abilities, do you get the weapon proficiencies as well? I really want to do a Kensai-mage, but if I'm stuck with something like 4 proficiences for the entire game the idea starts to lose some of its appeal.

    Yes, you do.

But what would happen if, say, your kensai put 3* in staff (for some reason) and the mage put another one. Would you have four* when you got the class back?

No you wouldn't - when you regain your original class abilities you get the best number of proficiency points for each weapon but they do not stack - so in your example the mage's staff proficiency point would be wasted.

Well that's something you can say about Anomen, he sure didn't know where to put his proficiency points when he was a fighter!!! ;)

Anyway gaining points by dual classing is one of the interesting perks you get when you dual class. You could try a swashbuckler/Fighter for instance. By placing 3 points in two handed weapons as a Swashbuckler you would get these back when the thief class becomes active, this would allow you to choose different proficiencies as a Fighter.

Except that swashbucklers aren't allowed to place three points in two handed weapons. In fact, no class can do this. Two is the maximum allowed in the game. Swashbucklers can place 3 points in two weapon style, but any fighter could do that as well.

But after you regain the proficiencies of the old class, you do get to add to them as you level up in the new class. That had me puzzled for a while, when Anomen was able to specialize (and even grand mastery eventually) on flails and maces and such.

You knew what he meant. Don't be picky.

I can never be bothered to dual class, except to a thief. Reason being- it takes soo long to get your class back otherwise. And then the rewards for being a high level thief are so pathetic. How many skill points do you really need?

No it doesn't stack - I've wasted proficiency points like this before - so plan ahead before you go putting everything into longswords!
