[IMG] I usually avoid this encounter at the archeological site on the same map that you find Brage. This thing seems unstoppable. If I encounter it at mid level it always kills 1or2 of my party. How do you go about killing the Doomsayer and ta what level do you feel is sufficient to fight him?

It is possible to defeat at mid levels. A combination of summons (via the ever-useful wand) and running around like crazy mean that you should be able to survive. I don't recall it being totally immune to magic (though I'd test this as I'm not that sure anymore).

Simply hit it with everything you have (not forgetting to buff with bless and chant beforehand) and when a character gets too injured, let them run away so another can tke their place. I managed it, so I have faith you should be able to too.

Simply memorize a lot of magic missiles with your casters. Let your fighter run around it and fire away. All the MM's will get through.

That's good to know. In that case, just use lots of offensive magic, though don't bother with fire.

Try many Skull Traps on the evergreen trees where it appears. This method requires reloading the game.

If you're not up to it, just don't bother. The only thing you get out of it is XP, and that for removing an evil statue from ancient burial grounds. I say give it a few reloads, and if you're having too much trouble, just take a pass.

Of course, that's not very easy advice to take. ;) Just keep in mind that he's immune to missile weapons & electricity and takes half damage from other elements, and throw everything else you have at him. Magic Missile and Skull Trap are good advice because they're pure magic (not elemental) and he'll take full damage. But that doesn't mean you can't fire off Acid or Flame Arrows for half damage when you run out of other things.

IIRC I managed to kill him in my first game.I was playing a solo F/T. Just backstab, run, hide, backstab again and repeat. I think you can do it with a party too. Pull your other characters back after speaking to him and make him chase your thief. Hide in shadows after some run (and hope to find a good corner for doing this) and backstab him to death.

Chromatic Orb is your friend. Just make sure that your strongest tank is the one who is taking damage and you should be fine.

The Doomsayer is a lot easier to fight if you hit him with a Dispel Magic first. This removes his Blur effect (making him much easier to hit) and his Flaming Sword, reducing his damage output somewhat and making him unable to kill any party members, just K.O. them (still annoying, but less of an issue than Resurrection).

I managed to kill the Doomsayer in my game by mostly buffing my toughest character and having it concentrate on him, then just wail on it with everything I've got.

Deviating slighlty, but what's the point of getting the statue? I couldn't seem to do anything with it, although I could sell it to that Flaming Fist woman in the Jovial Juggler for about 50 gold.

The statue can be used to get a horrible (as in sucky) weapon from the ghost of Ulcaster himself, but mostly it's just a key to fighting the Doomsayer (thousands of XP for a big challenge).

Vampiric short sword it's an easter. You need the statue and the armor from firewine ruins to obtain it from the ghost of Ulcaster. Or you could just sell the statue for the amazing sum of 50 gold. :D

Worked like a charm. A butt load of magic missles and a skull trap or two...this guy cannot resist magic damage. :D

You give the statue and the Ancient Armor gotten from the skeleton in the Ulcaster Ruins to the ghost of Ulcaster himself, topside. He gives you a sword called "The Vampire's Revenge", a cursed long sword +1 that drains your HP and gives it to the enemy you hit with it. And no, I don't mean it the other way around; that's why I said it sucks. Going through easter egg trouble to get a cursed weapon...REALLY not worth it.
