[IMG] Hey, I'm considering buying DOOM 3 and I'm wondering what those of you who have it think about it...What kind of graphics(ex: better than ut2k4?), buggy or good programming? Quality and quantity of maps? Types of weapons? Types of playable characters/enemies? If anyone can answer any of these questions for me thanks in advance! :p

The graphics are phenomenal, but gameplay-wise it is akin to a flashlight simulator. I would recommend waiting for Half-Life 2.

Doom 3 was fun to play for the first few hours. I didn't really mind all the flashlight-switching since I didn't use the flashlight much. But after some time I just got tired of the game. There weren't too many baddies to kill, the game relies on scares rather than just crazy-mass-monster-killing which I kind of missed. I felt the game was awfully long for an FPS, maybe because the story just wasn't good enough to sustain my interest. The only thing that kept me going was the image of the Cyberdemon, I just had to see it in all its 3D glory...

Needless to say, the graphics are simply mind-blowing.

I played this at a mates and I thought it was great fun although switching between flashnight and gun all the time is annoying. Although there is a mod ive heard about. This game has amazing graphics and it's never boring blasting other wordly creatures into smitherens :thumb:

From what I have heard, it sure looks good but with a high price -insane system requirments. Also, it is just regular shoot'em'up without any gimmicks, so if you want to buy it, you will be playing through it only once -if that.

Actually, from what I've heard, it'll actually run pretty well even on the minimum requirements. It won't be as pretty as th escreenshots, but it'll be perfectly playable. And that's more then you can say for a lot of games.

I've only played the demo but I thought it was pretty fun.
It just got a little boring after a while, but it's definately not a bad game.
I'm going to buy it when the price drops.

I suggest you play Aliens Versus Predator 2 instead, it's both better and scarier :)

Wait for Half-Life 2 if you are looking for a quality FPS game. If all you want is to be scared witless, get Silent Hill 4 : The Room.

    Very cool game.

Only, its for the PS2, but I'm assuming you're a "cool gamer".

All consoles are actually pretty uncool. Why waste hundreds of dollars on a machine for some games when you can get one for work and all games, past, future, and present?

Incidentally I read one of the first reviews today. It got only 70 points out of 100, meaning it is quite average in every aspect. As to HL2, think how many games have had that much hype and still been non-commentary. ;)

No offense, but I hate PS2. I will never ever touch a playstation. They are a sin against the PC! Besides, why would you buy a playstation. A computer, first of all, can easily(and usually much better) play any of the games for playstation that I'm interested in, like unreal tournament for example. And, not olny that, but a computer can do SO MUCH more than a playstation! Oh, and the system requirements are nothing for me. I have a pretty good computer that will probably play all the games to come for 3 or 4 years. Then I will upgrade as necesarry...

I must confess, I do own a console; a nice little Gamecube. It's perfect for either taking with me on a trip, or for all the great games that sadly will never see the light of PC day, such as Legend of Zelda, or Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance. Dark Alliance is a perfect example of a game that would be mediocre at best on PC, but because it's on consoles, it's actually a pretty good game.

Wow, I feel sorry for you. You must have had a pretty traumatic time with a PS2 to *hate* it, and you've never even touched one. Aww, did big old PS2 bully you in school or something?

    But now we're :yot:

Anyhow, if you have a computer that can probably run all the games to come for the next 4 years as you claim, try getting into FarCry. Now that's what I call a an entertaining shooter rather than Doom 3 which is just trying to scare you rather than give you things to shoot at.
