I did a test with the Moonblade by getting one of my PC's to attack another wearing chainmail. It seems as though the Moonblade does not bypass the armour bonus of the chainmail.

Can anyone else verify whether or not Brilliant weapons bypass armour? I believe there are other weapons that are supposed to bypass armour, too.

According to the description brilliant weapons only bypass damage resistance which can be surpassed by +5 weapons, not armor. AC bonus is not damage resistance. I remember only one weapon which bypasses armor, it can be won at the battle squares.

Here is the description for Brilliant Short Sword +5:

According to the description, it is supposed to ignore the target's shield and armour bonuses. There is nothing that refers to damage resistance.

For the Moonblade of Selune, the description includes the following:
Has anyone been able to verify that these two weapons bypass/ignore armour?

    Hey Stuntman.

I think that the passage in the description for the moonblade that you note is more asthetics than game mechanics. The description goes on to say that a moonblade drains life force instead of leaving physical wounds. The blade doesn't cleave flesh or (I assume) rend armor. It is in this sense that the blade 'bypasses' armor.

I tested the moonblade and the brilliant short sword +5 by hacking at an unfortunate party member and found that the brilliant short sword +5 does bypass armor bonuses while the moonblade does not.

Thanks, Nunsbane. The description of the Moonblade makes it sound better than it actually is. Other than being good against undead, it seems like the Moonblade is rather useless. You don't even add your strength bonus to damage which makes simple dagger seem better. Other than the fact that it looks and sounds cool, there doesn't seem to be much reason to use it over other magical weapons.

The best feature of the Moonblade is that it is a longsword+2500 vs poverty. :)
