    'lo again.

Well, I just rolled up a fighter/thief for a little fun, and for whatever reason, he can't seem to use his disable device skill.

He has two points in it from his fighter points, as well as five points from his first rogue level, and a few from dex bonus. However, when I select the thief skill and click on the locked doors/traps/etc. the icon is greyed out.

I've messed around with everything I could think of (gear, armor, tool bar) but haven't come up with a solution. Any particularly good brainwaves would be appreciated.

Are you sure the door/chest is locked. Or it could be trapped first, try the search button first, especially on any chest.

Indeed before you can disable a trap you have to find it.

If the chest is both trapped and locked however clicking the mask icon should show the lock cursor even if you have not found or disabled the trap - but opening it will set off the trap.

Is it possible the thief skills are turned off becuase of armor?? IIRC only search works with medium or heavy armor you need light or no armor to open locks or disable traps I think.

wanderon, I think that you can use theiving skills in any armor. You just have to add it the armor check penalty, which is rather large with heavier armors.

sbakker, exactly what armor is your fighter/thief wearing? IIRC, there are two or three armors added in by the EoU mod that are a little bit buggy.

You are correct Crucis - you can indeed use thief skills in any armor (provided you have taken at least one point in them) - I must have been thinking about BG or perhaps NWN...
