Did you play the Caesar series?

    Yes? Then get CivCity: Rome.
It's basically a modernised version of Caesar 3, and sticks very close to the same rules and game-style (and same wicked addictiveness).
Graphics are pretty cool and all the fellas who talk have British accents, so that's a plus.

The beauty of this is that, for a complicated-sounding game, it's very easy to pick the game up and make a little town that works and gets by. But then very hard to make a fully fledged Rome-esque city that works like clockwork. It's again the same as Caesar in that respect.

Try it out, very good I reckon!

Happy to read your brief review of CivCity Rome. I was very adicted to the Caesar series and am looking forward to Caesar IV. I may take a closer look at CivCity: Rome.

I played Caesar 2 and it wasn't great. Once I found a cheap and efficient way to beat a map, I kept reusing that strategy to beat the rest of the game, since the goal of each map was relatively the same. Pretty boring, although part of that was my fault for recycling my strategy over and over. :)

    I second this opinion. [/edit]

I wouldn't trust any review that has words "IGN", "Trusted", "Gamespy", or "AdrenalineVault" in it. Not that GameSpot is that much better, but here you go:

"You basically keep building the same town over and over again from map to map." So much for the replay-value... I did enjoy of Caesar 3 for a while, though.

It's okay, not great, but okay. Currently i'm playing two Rome citybuilding sims, CivCity Rome and Glory of the Roman Empire. The latter has the better graphics, Civ has the better gameplay. However, the game has the nasty habit of crashing or completely freezing randomly or whenever you get a message from the emperor. So they need to come up with a patch really fast, otherwise i'm going to put it on a shelf, where it can collect dust together with the other crap. There's few things i hate more than a game that needs to be patched before it's even a day old.
