Dexterity and defence or Armor and damage reduction?

    Having just read Blackthorne's reply in dmc's thread, I'm not entirely sure I agree. :p

    Maybe both are different paths to reliable durability?

    For Leliana, I always pump up both cunning and dexterity, and she barely took a scratch.

    Granted, a lot of the armors in DAO pre-DLC are kinda crappy. But I had Alistair wear Cailan's armor set from Return to Ostagar, and didn't experience much a problem. Hell, I often wasn't worried about Alistair getting hit with one of these maul on the ground moves (the High Dragon being a notable exception).

    Or maybe, when too many monsters got in close, Leliana would just hold everybody still with Captivating Song?

    In my experience through only two playthroughs defense is much more important than armor. Not that armor is entirely useless.

    I certainly gave Alistair enough strength to wear heavier armors in my second playthrough, but in my first one, I prioritized strength and as I said he routinely got his ass kicked. In my second playthrough I prioritized dexterity first and he then kicked ass.

    Both are important depending upon the build you are aiming for. If you want Alister to be a tank and miss attacks, absorb damage and just be in the front, than Dex and Str is important with STR ending score at 38 and dumping the rest of your stats into DEX. However, if you go the other route, DEX 26 and 1 point into Con and 2 into STR and you will have a well balanced character.
