[IMG] Tactics for defeating the Demonknight in Durlag's Tower. My party consist of:

    Cyr morningstorm:paladin Lv:8 hp:110
    Minsc:Ranger Lv:8 hp:68
    Xzar:Necro/Cleric Lv:6/7 hp:28
    Faldorn:Druid Lv:9 hp:62
    Garrick:Bard Lv:9 hp:38

When I storm him Cyr & Minsc get stuned and blown to bits, the others put up a decent fight but still loose.

Make sure you a have a tanker-type character with a good magic defence (potions, spells, equipment), attack only with the tanker, and make sure the rest of the party stay at long-range, beat it up with spells and long range weapons, after the beasty has no spells anymore, run around the room, so it will follow you tanker, the rest can take him up from behind.

You could try cracking the mirror as the game suggests, but I found doing it that was was harder as I got surrounded by powerful creatures.

When I defeated him (I use Easy Tutu btw), I summoned a bunch of creatures forward in an attempt to absorb his firepower. I can't remember if he targetted them or not, but if he ignores them, then you are free to use them to surround him so he cannot get to your party. I first hasted the party and cast Melf's Minute Meteors. The party all had missile weapons equipped and selected their most powerful ammo. We then spread out around the platform and pelted him with arrows. He went down fairly easily and no-one died.

You should select who is going to move into his sight first and concentrate your protective buffing on them.

A cheesy little trick I found when soloing is that he can't get across some of the bridges; he's too big. I circled around the outside and pelted him with arrows from the other side of the lower left bridge while he went around, using the upper left bridge. When he got close, I crossed the LL bridge and kept pelting him as he crossed back up at the UL bridge. Repeat ad nauseam, and he'll never touch that one character. :shake:

Haven't tried it for the final battle as it is too cheesy, but in order to get the helm of opposite alignment from him in Durlags entrance hall, I've used Ottilukes resilient sphere, pounded on him with fists until he's unconscious (haste can be quite useful here) and continued pounding until Ottilukes disipates. Then a simple thwack with a weapon...

[IMG] I finally beat the bastard! I noticed he cast dispel magic first when my Pally charged and followed up with that fireball that stuns you. So what I did was, Spread my party out around the walk way, stationed at the bridges, charged him with my Paladin. The first thing he did was cast dispel magic and as soon as he did my Paladin drank a potion of fire resistance and he already has the ring of fire resistance. Minsc and Faldorn followed my Paladin's charge at a distance. As soon as he confronted me Minsc started casting chaotic commands from a scroll, Faldorn cast Protection From Lightning from a scroll, Xzar cast chant, Garrick cast hast, and Imoen cast Protection From evil. Timing was everything, Minsc casting chaotic commands on the Paladin had to beat the Demonknight casting of the fireball that stuns. Luck was with us and we started sluging it out, Minsc with arrows of biting, Faldorn and Xzar with +2 bullets, Garrick and Imoen with arrows of piercing . Even with the help of a few potions my Paladin started to take a pounding, but this is better than the last time. When the stuation looked most dire for my Paladin, Garrick rushed to my rescue with mirror image and stone skin cast on him he was safe for a while. This gave my Paladin a chance to retreat to safety and start firing bolts of lightning. Garrick cast Ottilukes resilient sphere on himslf, and while the Demonknight raged on Garrick it was to no avail, good tactics and Torms favor won the day as the rest of the party cut the Dog Down!

I'd assumed that Ulgoth's Beard was more difficult and decided to hit Durlag's Tower first (apparently missing out on a couple of sidequests). I'm in Chapter 7 and have more or less maxed out every character with my mage7/thief7, khalid8, ajantis8, kivan8, coran7/7 and yeslick6/7. I had a HORRIBLE time with the traps just because both my guy and Coran were sneak thieves and had crap find traps skill.

    The Demonknight was ridiculously easy.

I'd been planning tactics and such but how it turned out was I cast monster summoning straight away and hobgoblins peppered him with arrows. I split my party up and left Khalid exposed and made him take the potion of magic blocking so that the dispel magic and fireball wouldn't touch him. Then as the demonknight got on the bridge, I cast monster summoning again and trapped him in the midst of wild dogs then, unhasted, coran and kivan started hitting him with arrows+2 while my mage hit him with mostly unsuccessful magic missiles. As I was positioning yeslick to cast silence just in case he'd cast a spell again, he died. Wild dogs killed him?? :| heh, it's a good thing I hadn't started buffing khalid and ajantis up with potions just yet.

Now I'm on my way to Ulgoth's Beard for the first time.
