[IMG] I am in Chapter 6 currently, making my way towards Bodhi. I have the Daystar sword, but I'm getting "weapon ineffective" messages when I try to use it against the vampires, fledgling vampires and vampiric mists. Also my char says "My weapon has no effect"...or some such. I was under the assumption that this sword was specifically FOR undead. ? I have had to go back to Lilarcor, which is working just fine, but I'm curious as to why Daystar would not be effective.

Also -- I've tried to equip the Shield of Balduran on my fighter when she has a long sword equipped and I keep getting messages that a "2-handed weapon is equipped" when it isn't. I've doublechecked the sword that is in use when this occurs, just to be sure....and it is in fact a one handed sword. Korgan, however, has no trouble carrying the shield. Thoughts?

The Daystar thing is annoying - it happens with weapons like the Flame Tongue sword as well. Although it's supposed to be +4 against undead, for some reason, the game assumes Daystar is a +2 weapon. I've only ever struck that problem against Liches and Kangaxx, though.

The only other thing I can think of (except for a bug, of course) would be the pools of blood - if you pour holy water into them, they weaken the vampires. Of course, you've probably already done that, in which case I'm out of advice.

How many weapons is your player carrying in their quick weapon slots? The equipped rule applies to whatever weapon is there so while you actually be using a one handed weapon, if you have a two handed weapon in the next slot you'll still get the message.

Most of the "named" vampires require better than a +2 weapon to hit. As has been written, though Daystar is +4 vs. undead, the engine treats it as +2 for what it can hit. Thus, you cannot use Daystar against "named" vampires (nor against liches).

I use the Daystar "fix" which makes it a +4 weapon. Well, actually I normally only use Daystar for casting Sunray, but it's not unreasonable to make it a +4 weapon since most enemies are evil.

Ahh... I see. On the shield issue, I did have a crossbow in my quick weapon slot, though it wasn't active. Removed it... thanks very much.

On the Daystar issue, the description of the sword just says +4 for "undead", which I had assumed meant all undead (unless I have my terminology wrong). Either way, Lilarcor seems to be doing the job just fine.

    Thanks everyone!

The Daystar does indeed get +4 to hit and damage vs undead. However, the weapon is coded as +2 to determine what it can hit. So if a particular undead requires a +3 weapon or greater to be affected, Daystar won't scratch it.

It's the exact same thing (only the complete opposite :p ) as a spell that creates a weapon in the caster's hand and that weapon "is considered +3 to determine which creatures it can affect, but has no bonus to hit". Hope that makes sense.
